February/March 2013
That had to be the longest January/February in history, spring at last!
It’s hard to write this without repeating last year’s blog, all the same stuff is happening again. so here we go. February sees the start of the 6 Nations rugby and guess what? We will be showing all the matches on our 6 plasmas and 2 massive screens. The atmosphere in Porterhouse Central for these games is electric, the roars are deafening, worth checking out. If you can’t be there, be here.
‘On 7th March barmen, managers, owners, promoters, DJs and a few celebrities from Dublin’s top pubs and nightclubs will be entering a boxing ring to beat the hell out of each other for charity. Fighters commenced training in January and train for two days a week until fight night’ www.facebook.com/DublinPubBox Two of our lads, Brian and Des are competing in this, so all donations welcome.
Paddy’s day will be bigger and better than ever this year, falling on a Sunday with the bank holiday the next day, so everyone will be having a few scoops. We will be offering our full food menu upstairs, liquid lunches downstairs.
‘Like’ the Porterhouse Central Facebook page to see regular updates of 6 Nations match days and our other events.
See you soon!
Central Blog Sept/Oct 2012
"May the roof above us never fall in, and may we friends gathered below never fall out”. Yes Fall or as we say Autumn has arrived. We bid you a warm welcome to Porterhouse Central.
The end of the summer was quite eventful with the Notre Dame V Navy football in the Aviva Stadium in August. We had the parade pass outside the front of the Pub, Plenty of Americans in lapping up our craft beers, we couldn’t brew the beer quick enough for them. A great weekend had by all.
September means back to school for some, and back to college for others. We will be welcoming back our Trinity college regulars along with the ‘freshers’. We will help teach these poor 1st years (innocent to the world) about good beer.
Over the next few weeks we will have the All Ireland GAA finals, football between Donegal and Mayo on Sunday the 23rd September and the Hurling Final Replay between Kilkenny and Galway on Sunday the 30th.
The end of September brings Oktoberfest to Munich and we follow this with our own Oktoberfest in the middle of October. This year we will have all of the German guest beers available the whole month of October.
We then have the Halloween Weekend running from Friday 27th to Bank holiday Sunday the 29th October. Always a great weekend in Dublin City, plenty of crazy costumes, some straight from the sex shops. We will have prizes for the best costumes on the Sunday night.
Check out our Facebook page for specials and other info.

All the best from all of us here in Central.
Howdy doody,
How is your summer going ? Ours is going down very smoothly, like a pint of Plain.
July saw the installation of a few nice tall fridges behind the bar in here, expanding our beer selection capability. We have added a good 30 extra choices for you beer-lovers out there. July was our American Craft Beer month which went down very well, some seriously good beers.
August is our Belgian Beer month, Fruit & Lambic Beer that is. We will have 6 fruit beers on tap with several of the bottled variety.
The Premier League kicks off on Saturday the 18th August, get in here early to see all the action on our 5 plasmas and 2 big screens.
This August Dublin will welcome the International Tall Ships Races for the first time since 1998. As final host port for the 2012 Tall Ships Races, the event will see up to 100 Tall Ships sail into the capital for a four day festival and celebration from 23rd-26th August 2012. Ships from Chile, Mexico, Argentina, the US, Italy and Norway will chart their course to Dublin. Over 5000 participants will compete in these races.
On Sept 1ST Aviva Stadium will host the 86th playing of the Navy - Notre Dame game. The two colleges previously played their fixture in Ireland in 1996 in Croke Park. The Navy-Notre Dame rivalry is the longest continuous intersectional rivalry in college football with the two schools having met every year since 1927. If the match is televised we will show it here. Check out our Facebook for updates on this, and anything happening in here.
So we look forward to seeing you in here for a few beers and a few laughs,
From all of us here in Central,
Bye bye!
Welcome, welcome. How are we all this fine evening?
The Sun is back in Dublin, hopefully it lasts longer than the little heat-wave in April. Grafton street is hopping with shoppers and tourists, popping in to our bar for a sneaky pint or two or a bite to eat from or delightful new menu, which is yummy. The atmosphere is so much more upbeat when the sun is shining.
For the last few Sunday nights we have had a new band playing, The Cool Hand Dukes. They play a lively Bluezy, Jazzy set and a definitely worth a look. Every Sunday from 9.30pm, no cover charge as always. Our other live event happens every Monday night, Colm Lynch does some excellent covers, from Bob Dylan to Kings of Leon, but it’s his own stuff that is what people come to see. Monday nights from 9.30pm, not to be missed.
May ends with Bloom in Pheonix Park, from 31st May to the 4th of June. Porterhouse will have a stand in The Bloom Inn, Bord Bia. Here you can sample our craft beers and have a taste Dingle Whiskeys.
June starts with a bang in Dublin City this year with the sound of Formula 1 cars on the 3rd with the Bavarian Breweries City Racing event which will visit the city this year. Some of the events will be held just outside the front door of Porterhouse Central, so if you get thirsty or hungry we’re not far away.
The next day on bank holiday Monday the 4th is the annual Flora Ladies mini-marathon, we are the unofficial pit-stop and finishing line for this, best of luck to all the ladies taking part.
The rest of June will be all about the Euros, the EUFA Euros that is. We are hoping to get the ‘Italia 90’ feeling in Porterhouse Central, well we have enough screens and enough beer come close, come on you boys in green! The first game is on Friday the 8th, Irelands first game is on Sunday the 10th, kick-off 8.45 pm.
This June we celebrate the ‘golden days of summer’, with Wheat beers and Golden ales. Our guest beers will include Friar Weiss, O’Hara’s Irish Wheat and Blarney Blonde in on tap.
If anyone still has a liver after the June madness they won’t by the end of July, because July is about American Craft Beers, from Odells to Goose Island. I’ll go into more detail on our Facebook page, so like us to find out more.
Can you tell I wrote this on a Sunny day? It was sunny when I wrote the last one too. It will definitely be raining when I write the next blog, so we will see if that is gloomier.
If you read all that, thanks a million.
From all here in Porterhouse Central, Dublin.
Hello and welcome to the Central part of the Porterhouse from all the staff here in Porterhouse Central.
April already and the sun is shining. All the newspapers telling us ‘don’t to get too excited’ or ‘make the most of it, cause it doesn’t mean we will have a hot summer’, all doom and gloom. Well it has been far from doom and gloom in here the past couple of months, even when we lost against England on Paddy’s Day. Game over, Screen up, Pints, Dancing, Shenanigans, Leprechauns etc. The pub was packed all day, if you were here you know what I mean. The City of Poznan in Poland bought 900 pints of beer for people who came on the day, as a welcome to the Irish to their city for the Euro 2012 Ireland games.
Over the next couple of months we are dedicating a month to a type of beer. April will be all about stouts, where we will have 4 of our own stouts (Chocolate Truffle is the fourth) along with a few guest stouts from craft brewers around Ireland.
May will be IPA month, we will be increasing our bottle range of these and getting a few more in on tap to compare to our Hophead IPA. Check out our Facebook or pop in to see what’s new.
We have Colm Lynch playing every Monday night and on Monday April 2nd and Monday April 30th he will have a band playing with him, not to be missed. The live music continues on a Sunday with ‘Sunday night Live’ where we showcase new acts with our friends at Gaffjam . Another night not to be missed is our music quiz ‘Beat the intro’ always good crowd in.
We cover all major sporting events on 5 plasmas + 2 big screens, from the Golf masters in Augusta USA 5th -8th April to the Heineken Cup final on the 19th May and the RaboDirect pro 12 final on the 26th,and with everything in between.
So whatever the weather, we look forward to seeing you in sunny Central,
From all the staff, Porterhouse Central.
Greetings friend,
Welcome to the Porterhouse website from all the staff here in Central.
Well, the snow stayed away this Christmas (thank God), so it was nice and busy. Lots of those nice “12 pubs of Christmas” people in their Santa suits sipping on Jagerbombs, we can’t wait to see them next year. That’s all over now, let’s look to this year.
January has been pretty good, with our staff party on the 9th which saw the staff from London coming over to join all of the staff from the Porterhouse bars and Tapas bars here for a right knees-up. One of the best staff parties to date.
Now that February has arrived we kick off our 6 Nations rugby season on the 4th. Central has 8 screens including 2 massive projectors, making it the one stop shop for the 6 Nations. The atmosphere here is unrivalled if you can’t be at the match. We will also be showing the Superbowl on Sunday 5th February for all you American football fans.
Valentines Day (14th February) falls on a Tuesday this year, Music quiz night. Central may not be the most romantic pub in the city, but it does do a good cocktail. If you are single it can be the place to find “love”, or for couples to just get away from all those restaurants with all their little tables for two.
The 6 Nations will move into March concluding on Paddy’s Day 17th with our match against England. The Patricks Day Festival runs from 16th - 19th March, with plenty of events around the city. We are expecting a packed pub on Paddy’s Day so we will serve food upstairs, Dancing and Drinking downstairs. DJ’s will be starting at 5.30pm.
Thanks for taking time out to read this, we hope to have more gossip for you in our next instalment.
Cheers,
Porterhouse Central and all her crew.
Seasons greetings friend,
Welcome to the new Porterhouse blog from all the staff here in Central.
It was great November in here, with a few really busy weekends. We had Movember nights at the beginning and end of the month, they were bit of craic and for a good cause - become a fan of our Facebook page to check out our 'Mo' photo album.
Last Thursday saw the first of the Christmas parties. They all look as though butter wouldn't melt when they arrive Suited and booted, Santa hats galore. It doesn't take long for the festive madness to take hold, swinging from the rafters, dancing like your embarrassing uncle. Well plenty more of that to come, a warm festive atmosphere, with our DJ's Chris and Simon knocking out rock, chart and all the Christmas party anthems. We are going late 7 nights for the rest of December, serving till 2.30am. There is still some limited availability for bookings, so give us a call (01-6797539).
This year for New Years Eve we will be taking bookings, this way you will have a table waiting for you at no cost, book early to get yours. We will be offering €2 off all cocktails all night and a €50 bottle of champagne or €25 bottle of cava, no cover charge.
Thanks for taking time out to read this, we hope to have more gossip for you in our next installment.
Yours Festively,
Porterhouse Central and all her crew.
